From basic exams to root canals
Is there anything that warms your heart as much as seeing your child’s smile? Starting regular visits to the dentist at an early age is the best way to keep that smile healthy and beautiful for your child’s entire life.
There are many benefits of regular dental visits for your child, including:
Remember that sound dentition is critical to good digestion, growth and speech learning.
Kanata North Dental Office is a family practice that caters to a large number of children. We are kid-friendly and our goal is to ensure that every child is comfortable and has a fun and pleasant experience. We believe that a visit to the dentist can make a positive impression that will last a lifetime. Often, our younger patients look forward to dental visits with us as a result of the effort we make to provide a pleasant environment. Our Fun and Smile Zone is part of our child-centered experience.
We recommend that children have their first complete dental exam and start on their routine dental checkups and cleanings between the ages of three and four. The American Dental Association, for one, suggests a first visit six months after the first tooth has erupted. We also see young kids for specific problems.
On occasion, we do a free Meet and Greet visit to familiarize children with our office. They get to see the dental equipment and instruments, and meet our friendly staff and dentist. They also get a chance to go for a chair ride. If and when children appear ready, we proceed to a complete exam.
We put great emphasis in making sure that children grow up not being afraid of going to the dentist. The first visit usually involves a tour of the office facilities and equipment commonly used in an informative and non-threatening manner.
Building on a Positive First Experience
This introduction may be all that can be accomplished for a young first-timer on their initial visit. Building on the positive experience, and with special guidance to parents, treatment is gradually introduced as circumstances warrant and your child’s behaviour allows. The result will be a youngster who is well adjusted to a dental sitting.
At times, toddlers may come in with a parent or older sibling to see how we clean their teeth. This familiarizes children with dentistry, so much so that many will want to have their own teeth cleaned!
Much of the success of getting children to brush their teeth depends on the parent. Providing a good example is the best way you can encourage your child to brush regularly and turn it into a healthy habit that lasts a lifetime.
As your child grows, Dr. Assad will be able to provide recommendations to keep or improve that lovely smile.
